In, 1973 Nelson Freightways obtained the BANDAG franchise for the purpose of retreading their own fleet of over 400 pieces of equipment.
In, 1975, James B. Wood was promoted to Manager. Shortly there afterward, we began to offer our services to other tire dealers and trucking fleets throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.
In 1978, we became one of a selected few dealers to be awarded the KELLY SPRINGFIELD franchise for new truck tires.
In 1983, James B. Wood was promoted to General Manager
In 1984, The Bergson Company became Bergson Tire Company, Inc. and continued to expand our operation.
In 1986, Perry Chilberg joined Bergson as its Sales Manager. Shortly there afterwards, the operation expanded to include all of southern New England and eastern New York
In 1988, Bergson built a new retread plant in Ellington Ct. which included state-of-the-art equipment, including Bandag's patented N.D.I., casing analyzer.
In 1990, after many years with Nelson Freightways, Inc. James Wood and Perry Chilberg obtained a financial interest in Bergson Tire Company, Inc., and today, own and operate the company.
In 1991, Bergson Tire became an authorized truck tire dealer for BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE, INC.
In 1998, Bergson opened its second full service facility in Eastford Connecticut designed to meet the needs of customers located along the I-395 corridor.
In 1999, Bergson Tire became Connecticut's largest truck tire retreader with over six million dollars in sales. Some of our customers are Ryder Truck Rental, Penske Truck Leasing, Laidlaw Transit, Waste Management, Airways Truck Leasing, Interstar North America and many more.
Another milestone was achieved in 2001 with the acquisition of the Southern Connecticut Truck Tire Center, in Stratford. This addition to the Bergson "family" allows us to serve the local market more efficiently.
A further commitment to efficiency came in July of 2001 with a 20,000 square foot plant expansion. This addition allowed us to add state-of-the-art retread equipment to produce an even finer product. Furthermore, the expansion created severely needed warehouse space for our new tire and cap + casing inventory.
